Keep Calm and Flutter On, part Zucchini

"Are you sure this isn't over doing it?" enquires Discord, daintily dabbing at his mouth with a napkin. He swallows it a moment later.

Around the stationary couch, the cottage creaks and groans ominously as the entire structure gently rotates in place. Cupboards bang, bird houses swing wildly and all manner of bric-a-brac rains down from ceiling to floor to ceiling again.

"You said to make myself at home while you were gone but I wouldn't want to overstep my bounds... "

Sorry, Discord, but Fluttershy just can't help wincing every now and then as stuff tumbles. She doesn't mean to upset you, really.

"I did say that, so... if this makes you more comfortable-" she breaks off to duck out of the way of a set of pots, then continues, "-by all means, please, feel free."

"Oh, well, it does very much so!" he beams. "You're so very kind, my dear Fluttershy." He leans in, placing both paws on her shoulders.

"I always knew that you were the understanding one." Discord continues in a conspiratorial whisper "Not like those nasty friends of yours."

Behind them, Angel sails past with a yowl.

Hey! Fluttershy gasps and pushes him away. "My friends aren't nasty!"

"Well, of course you'd say that. It just goes to show how understanding you truly are!" comes the smooth reply. He flashes her a small smile before teleporting back to his couch.

"You know, I think Princess Celestia was right when she singled you out as the one who could reform me. You're off to such a good start, I'm seriously considering actually being reformed!"

From the floor, Angel stares as a second face materializes on the back of Discord's head. It blows the rabbit a raspberry.

Once Twilight figured out that Discord had sabotaged the library's spellbooks, she and Spike rushed back to Fluttershy's home as fast as possible. And not a moment too soon, it appears, for they arrive to find the entire tree-cottage uprooted and rotating in midair a good thirty feet off the ground.

"Fluttershy?" Twilight calls. "Fluttershy, can you hear me?"

"Goodness! I hear Twilight!" Fluttershy rushes off to see what she wants, doubling back after a moment to catch a falling Angel.

Oh thank Celestia she's there and in one piece. "Fluttershy, what's going on? Are you okay?"

"We're fine. Everything's going great, isn't it, Angel?"

Angel doesn't agree; he's too busy trying not to fall into the creek from dizziness. Some creatures can't fly to keep themselves from crashing around spinning rooms.

But hey, Discord said he's considering being reformed already! That's great news!

"We've come to get you away from Discord," says Twilight urgently. "He's just terrible--and, from the looks of it, completely out of control!"

"Oh, but you're wrong! We're making great progress!"

"Seriously??" say Spike and Twilight simultaneously.

Oh, yes. "I'm earning his trust by giving him a little space to be himself," she explains.

"Hate to break it to you," says Spike, "but he used that 'space to be himself' to tear out all the reforming spells from the library!" He pulls out the torn copy of Extremely Advanced Magic for Eggheads to show Fluttershy, just in case she's skeptical.

Huh. "That does explain the paper-eating," Fluttershy muses.

"HE ATE THEM?!"

[needs_fern]

"But we aren't going to need a spell," Fluttershy tries to reassure Twilight. "He's already really considering being reformed! He said so."

"And you believed him?!"

[needs_fern]

"If I'm going to be his friend, I have to start by giving him the benefit of the doubt!" Hey, maybe there's a friendship report in that.

An idea hits Fluttershy. "Tell you what. Bring all the ponies over for a dinner party this evening, and I'll bet his manners will have really improved by then. I'll even get him to put the cottage back on the ground first!"

Though if she's going to do that, she should probably get started. She heads back up to the cottage to start negotiating.

"...alright," sighs Twilight. "Dinner it is."
